Why documenting your story through 'lifestyle' photography could suit you perfectly

Are you unsure about the purpose of lifestyle photography? Or why you'd want it versus the traditional 'photography studio' portraiture? Then hopefully you're in the right place.

I am a huge fan of studio styled imagery. I have invested many years in learning to use a studio effectively and love the look. In the right circumstance it is extremely powerful and I will continue to utilise my skills in the studio. However, I feel when it comes to documenting YOUR story, rather than generalised beautiful portraiture, it needs to be personalised and having your photos taken in your favourite spot or in home comforts certainly checks that box.

One thing I love to look out for when being invited to capture lifestyle photography are the small details that will help me tailor your experience with me that you may not have considered. Is your home crisp white in decor, dark & moody or are you a fan of a bright & busy home?

When I come to your space, I can create images to match your personality, I want you to look at them and feel a deep connection to them forever. I will not only click my shutter when a person is in the frame, I may also admire your hard work in your baby's nursery and when your fur baby pops in to say hello. I'm looking for the sentimental, not the traditional.

Even if your home is not exactly as you wish it to be decorated for now, it is part of your story in this very important moment. You will look back at your images in years to come and say 'oh look, I remember snuggling into that old sofa feeding the baby' or 'look how far we've come as a family'. That's what photography should be all about, capturing a snippet of time and eternalising it with all of the emotions intact.

Secondly, it is far more convenient for you. Which, when you are growing a human, birthing a baby or having to adjust to a newborn is so important to me. You will feel relaxed, I want to give you beautiful photographs/ films that have not caused you any difficulty in capturing and this way everything is at your pace. If you wish to have cosy images in bed or lounging on the sofa, it is my job to turn this from a rather mundane situation to a wow image that you will treasure and feel proud to present on the wall.

In newborn studio photography, capturing your baby in the first two weeks of their life is important for posing and positioning, whereas at home the time restrictions are more variable as what I'm looking to shoot is your day to day details, your beautiful life in its own right and the things that make you who you are. I can search out those lovely pockets of natural light that wrap around your baby so sweetly or textures that make for interesting images, still providing those crisp & polished finishes to your images that define them as professional.

I will reiterate, I LOVE studio photography, but I want to give you options. Just a few points to consider when thinking about how you want your story told.
